On Monday night (July 8), the official website of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), bmd.gov.bd, was hacked by a group identifying themselves as ODIYAN911. The breach was confirmed by BMD’s Deputy Director Shameem Hassan Bhuiyan on Tuesday (July 9).
Efforts to recover the website began immediately, with the IT team working through the night to restore normal operations. As of now, the website remains compromised.
BMD, the national weather agency of Bangladesh, operates under the Ministry of Defence. It oversees a comprehensive network of surface and upper air observatories, radar and satellite stations, agrometeorological observatories, geomagnetic and seismological stations, and the country’s meteorological telecommunication system.
Authorities are urging the public to remain patient and seek weather updates through alternative channels until the issue is resolved. Further information will be provided as the situation develops.
