A seven-year-old schoolgirl, Bristi Wrishi, went missing after being swept away by floodwaters in Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona today.
Bristi, a class one student at Bogajan Govt Primary School and daughter of Kripendra Wrishi from Bogajan village in Kalmakanda’s Sadar union, was walking on a muddy road submerged by a flash flood in the Babni area this morning when she slipped and fell into the water. The strong current, caused by heavy rains over the past few days, swept her away, according to Md Lotful Hoque, officer-in-charge of Kalmakanda Police Station, who quoted local residents.
Locals immediately began searching for the girl but were unsuccessful. Upon receiving information, police and Fire Service personnel from Kalmakanda joined the rescue operation. As of the time of this report, around 6:30 PM, Bristi had not yet been found.
Efforts to locate her continue as the community hopes for her safe return.
